Title:No Shrinking Violet
Date:Jun 2018
Original Size: 6 foot tall including hat
Notes: This is a collection of upcycled garments produced for the MTF No Shrinking Violets exhibition. I imagine this is a mature (widowed, like my great-grandmother?) woman. She is wearing subdued colours in her skirt, as befits a widow, but has gone to town on the violet blouse, and the purple green and white flowers on her hat. The overskirt was converted from an evening dress of my great-aunt's (probably 1950s), the underskirt uses a bit of older lace, which had already been recycled once, mounted on purple satin. The blouse was a pale lilac one, redyed to attempt to give the impression of a violet, with a bit of dyed lace added to give a peplum. Belt buckle 1920s, which I wore on a cloak in the 1970s. The hat was second hand (probably 1980s) machine embroidered and stiffened with PVA. Hat is for sale, the rest of the costume not.
