| Title: | Canal flowers necklace |
|---|---|
| Date: | Oct 2020 |
| Original Size: | about 20 inches long |
| Notes: | A reworking of my rainbow bobbin lace necklace. The WS&D National Exhibition title for 2020 (repeated for 2022) was "Cotton, Coal, Canals", and I designed this to fit in with that - basically added a zigzag inkle woven strip behind the flowers to give the impression of leaves. The resulting neckpiece is much more wearable than the original rainbow necklace First version was a rainbow necklace produced for the Birmingham WS&D Guild Annual Competition in 2017. Necklace in tatting with bobbin lace - the main thread is node tatting, with 4 small flowers on it. I used these for the centres for bobbin lace braided flowers using cold-dyed crochet cottons, and then added 3 more flowers in bobbin lace. For the National Exhibition I first added an inkle woven strip, zigzagged behind the flowers, and finally a ring of white daisies with blue centres, on a blue node tatted cord with jet beads. All the coloured yarns were dyed with Procion dyes |
